Sustainable beekeeping

We believe in sustainable beekeeping. It is believed that Einstein said
“If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” Bees are pivotal to sustain life as we know it and we must strive to keep them alive.

Our hives are checked frequently to ensure there is no threat from diseases or pests. We choose our sites carefully to ensure there is enough shelter and enough natural food for the bees to work on in the area. We are lucky to have such beautiful native bush on our doorstep.

Before the honey flow comes in, a substantial number of our bees are used for pollination in Kiwi fruit orchards in the bay of plenty.

Towards the end of the honey season, we try to leave honey in the hives for the bees over winter to avoid having to feed them artificially, although of course if a hive is struggling or the winter is particularly hard we will.

We only use glass jars in our packaging as we don’t believe in single use plastics. New Zealands plastic problem, although under documented, is a serious concern with no current solution. Glass is the most easily recycled material and can be recycled endlessly with no loss in quality or purity, so please recycle your jars after use.
